I'd always lived in the city. People say that the country is quiet and that it takes time to get used to it. I never got to experience this "quiet." My house was set about half a kilometer back from the road and my nearest neighbor was nothing but a speck on the horizon. Of course, I didn't know anything about farming, but there was something that seemed appealing about leaving the big city behind. Besides, I only cared about the house, I'd planned to rent out the land to a local farmer or something. At first, the noises were easy to write off as wildlife or other creatures. As time went on though, they were accompanied by other things. Howling, screeching, wailing. Some nights, the noises sounded almost human. In the morning, I'd find piles of viscera around the property. I've never been able to sell the house, but needless to say I got the fuck out of there and moved back to the city |

Anytime I think about moving out to the country and living in the middle of nowhere, I read something like this. | |
